Dennis Assaf poses for picture as Mayor Shaddinger signs the contract to restore WPAT

The Westwego Performing Arts Theatre is scheduled to reopen in the first days of 2017!

On August 29th, 2012, Hurricane Isaac made landfall in southeast Louisiana, exactly 7 years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Greater New Orleans Area. This relatively weak Category 1 storm spawned a tornado which ripped a huge hole in the roof of the Westwego Performing Arts Theatre (WPAT), allowing water to enter the building, flooding it from the inside and destroying nearly everything in this beautiful theatre. Since then, the building has remained closed to the public. After nearly four years of fighting to cut through the “red tape”, Mayor Johnny Shaddinger of Westwego proudly signed a contract giving Tuna Construction LLC the “go-ahead” to begin the restoration of WPAT. Construction work is due to be completed before Christmas 2016, and a grand-reopening is slated for the first days of 2017.
