TECHNICAL INTERNS

Jefferson Performing Arts Society is seeking Interns for its 2013-2014 season.

JPAS offers a well-rounded internship covering all technical and administrative theatre specialties, allowing eager young individuals to expand and grow in various directions while gaining practical hands on knowledge of specific interests.
(4 Theatrical Technicians) Primary duties are to assist with the fabrication of all scenic elements under the direction of the Technical Director and to fully bring all designs to realization in the areas of Set, Lighting, Costume, A/V, Props, and Sound. Working hours are 9am to 6pm, 6 days a week with a 1-hour lunch, totaling no less than 48 working hours per week. Technical interns will play major parts in some of the full-stage productions including deck crew, light op, sound op, and follow-spots.

JPAS interns will work with numerous designers, directors, actors, and teams to create the full JPAS season of Children’s shows, Musicals, Dramas, Comedies, Ballets, and Operas as well as original works from local composers, playwrights, musicians, and artists. Interns will gain hands-on experience working in JPAS’s four main facilities and on touring shows, in and around the beautiful city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Desired Skills:
-Experience in Carpentry is mandatory, as it is the primary duty of the internship, with a secondary knowledge and desire to learn more in other areas of Technical Production
-Ability to work individually and as part of team
-Ability to think creatively to solve problems
-Ability to lift 75lb
-Ability to work a changing schedule of long hours over extended periods of time
-A valid US driver’s license is recommended
-Ability to drive a 16-foot box truck is a plus
-Experience welding steel
-Experience working at heights, including in automated man-lifts

Design opportunities may be available for individuals that show aptitude in given areas.

The interview process will begin in April of 2013.
