(June 20, 2024—Metairie, Louisiana)—Jefferson Performing Arts Society, founded in 1978 by Maestro Dennis Assaf, is releasing a new logo this summer that reflects the company’s past, present, and future.
“Our dilemma in 1978 was ‘What do we call ourselves’? We had no theatre, and our physical home was a church, but we wanted our name to reflect our aspirations in this exciting and varied world of the performing arts. Since the term ‘society’ means ‘an organization formed for a particular purpose’, and since our foundation was in Jefferson Parish, we became the Jefferson Performing Arts Society.
As time went on, the term ‘society’ became confusing to patrons as it sounded exclusive, which could not be farther from our intention. By updating our logo to become ‘Jefferson Performing Arts’, our mission is clear. We represent and present all the performing arts – and we are proudly based in Jefferson Parish. Simple, direct, and strong!” says Founder and Artistic Director Maestro Dennis Assaf.
The website address will remain jpas.org, as the company will continue to operate under the official business name of Jefferson Performing Arts Society. But the DBA will be Jefferson Performing Arts (JPA) starting in June.
The logo was designed with the Scott Ott Creative team in collaboration with JPA staff and the JPA board of directors.
“Our new brand combines a fresh perspective while including the main images from our longtime logo: the drama masks, treble clef, and dancer. As we build towards our 50th anniversary as one of the Gulf South’s longest-operating and largest performing arts companies, we are expanding our onstage and educational offerings and touring our shows again. This new logo illustrates the power of the performing arts and the strength and stability of our organization as we envision an even better next 50 years,” added Executive Director Rob DeViney.
