On Monday, February 15th, 2021, a panel of local and national mental health experts joined JPAS executive director Todd Simmons for an online discussion about modern day mental health issues, concerns, barriers, advancements, and developments.  The discussion was inspired by the plays being staged by JPAS in January and February 2021:  One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (based on Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel) and Arsenic and Old Lace (play by Joseph Kesserling, 1939).  How has the perception of those with mental illness changed since these plays were written? What are you as mental health professionals seeing and hearing in your fields that is helping people with mental illnesses live better lives? How can the performing arts help with awareness and positive change for the mental health community?

JPAS thanks our panelists for donating their time for this important discussion, and we look forward to continuing to work with them and others in the mental health community on building awareness and empathy.
