The audience was treated to a high level of dancing and top-notch choreography in an exciting repertoire of classics as well as current commissioned works that we normally don’t see…thanks to collaborations of ABT with choreographers from all over the world.
ABT Studio Company plays out charmingly as a fresh and fleet display of young dancers...accomplished classicists and comradely artists.
Performances will include selections from the following repertoire: World Premieres by Amy Hall Garner and Jamar Roberts; recent commissions by Hope Boykin and Houston Thomas; Alexei Ratmansky’s THE SEASONS Pas de Deux; and excerpts from DON QUIXOTE and THE SLEEPING BEAUTY.
Nearly 80% of current dancers in American Ballet Theatre are alumni of ABT Studio Company, among them Misty Copeland, Isabella Boylston, and Calvin Royal III.
ABT Studio Company, the junior company of American Ballet Theatre, is made up of 12-18 rising stars of the ballet world between the ages of 17 and 21.
ABT Studio Company prepares these outstanding young dancers, who hail from all over the globe, to enter American Ballet Theatre or other leading ballet companies worldwide.
ABT Studio Company dancers perform masterworks of the classical and neoclassical canons alongside contemporary works. The group commissions a wide variety of choreographers to create new, custom ballets on the dancers each season, with a special focus on female choreographers.
The performers of ABT Studio Company – formerly ABT II - are well trained...The emphasis was on clarity, composure, musicality. Shoulders showed no tension, arms created perfect arcs and lines, legs radiated firmly, necks were beautifully clear, heads were charmingly, beautifully carried. Rhythm was spruce, phrasing steady. And everyone creates a stage world of chivalry, etiquette, good humor.
